We started our day with a performance from the Kahurangi group. They came all the way from the North Island to perform waiata, poi, dance and show us how to use a taiaha. Tyran was selected from our class to become a warrior and have a go at using the taiaha. We all thought this was really funny as he had to make loud noises and pull scary faces. Everyone in the school really enjoyed the performance and we learnt that Maori people come from Hawiki and that they use their language to keep their culture alive.
In the afternoon we started making menus for healthy eating. This is to show what we have learnt about eating a balanced diet. We know that we have to eat 5+ a day of fruit and vegetables, eat at least 5 carbohydrates a day. Carbohydrates are food such as bread, cereal, rice, potatoes and pasta. We also have to make sure we get our protein by eating meat and keep drinking milk or eating dairy products at least twice a day to keep our bones nice and strong. Everyone has created some awesome restaurant and cafe menus to show this: we will display these on our blog when we have our finished products.
We are also keeping ourselves really fit at the moment by continuing our training for cross country. Some people have been selected to represent CVPS for the South Otago Cross Country event in Clinton on Monday. Well done to Ella, Kirsty, Helga, Tonia, Anna and Scott for having fast enough times to make it through to this event. We will keep you posted on how well they do next week.
